Mini-Tributes: I Heart….Kangta

kangta, originally uploaded by just_fast_love.

During my teenage years, I had a crush on the K-Pop singer during his H.O.T. and debut solo album days.

For those wondering how I found out about H.O.T. was when I was watching the 1996 MTV VMAs and they were winners from around the world and H.O.T. showed up, and I was thinking “A Korean rap group? Get out…” A few searches later, and I found more music videos and the whole of the K-Pop world (ah, the pre-Youtube days)

One funny story, during high school, I knew an exchange student from China who was showing pictures of her home and I saw a poster of Kangta on a wall of her room and she says “You don’t know who he is,” and I go “Kangta!” and the look on her face was priceless.

Tribute: I Heart….Rockapella

Who, you say?  Isn’t that the group from the kid’s show from the early nineties?

That’s right, and they’re still around, different people, but still around.

(my journey is similar to the one Laura from Bright and Beautiful wrote on her Rockapella tribute page http://www.brightandbeautiful.org/rockapella/rockapella.html You can check it out here)

I first got to know Rockapella while watching the show “Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?” And the memories I have are of them singing Zombie Jamboree and Barry Carl as Dracula.  After the show, I would watch Square One.  Ahh, PBS.

Years later, as a teenager, I see the Folger’s commercial.  I can’t tell you exactly what were my thoughts exactly, other than “Huh, they’re still around,”
