Before you read this, I just want to let you know I am not exactly happy with this review, but I have put this on the back burner for a long time.  In other words, I edited this the best I could and said, “Forget it, I’m going to put it out there and move on.”

Before 1man1mike and Tokyo Robots, Scott Leonard released a solo album with instruments!  All in all, it’s a cute album if you like pop-rock.  It has quirky lyrics with a poppy sound that was so predominant in the early 90′s.  However, you have to order it off Scott Leonard’s website.  I must say, it is weird hearing him sing along with a full band (Yes I know, he sang with the Boston Pops, but still…).

Album Review: “Bang,” by Rockapella

So, Rockapella has finally released a new album with their new member, Stephen Dorian taking the place of Kevin Wright.  I downloaded the whole thing off iTunes.  I must say, I do love the swanky Maurice Binder style cover.

I have heard her name bandied about in various pop culture blogs until I finally saw a youtube video of her performing and…wow.

Talk about smooth and sleek.  I know she’s coming to my home state and I will try to see her in person.  Anyway, as a personal treat after dealing with a very trying day, I treated myself to downloading some of her songs off iTunes.  The following list represents my favorite songs from her.

Album Review: Jennifer Batten’s Above, Below, and Beyond

I am finally writing a review of Jennifer Batten’s solo album.  It’s a great scorcher of an album with its variety of styles and is especially useful during long road trips.  While the theme of the album is instrumental, there are singers that Jennifer collaborates with on various tracks.  One downside to instrumental songs, is that it is hard to review them because I have a tendency not to listen so much as I lose myself to the songs.  In other words, it will be hard for me to be objective when reviewing this album.

A clip about the making of Above, Below, and Beyond.

Album Review: Smilin’ by Rockapella

ROCKAPELLA, originally uploaded by Solevoci.

That’s right folks, the studio album from 2002 with Barry Carl retiring and the début of George Baldi III replacing him as Rockapella’s resident Bass Man.

Album Review: Rockapella “In Concert” CD and DVD

This is the first album I bought when I got back into Rockapella.  Since it’s a live CD, it’s hilarious hearing the audience go crazy and since you can only hear the audio, you wonder, what’s going on?  I got the DVD eventually.  The hard part of this review is that I’m trying to review a CD featuring songs I’ve already reviewed.

My parents became instant lovers of Rockapella the minute they played this album, I think mainly because the guys are performing remakes of songs they have grown up with.  And according to my mom, dad could not believe that it was Jeff Thacher by himself making those sounds.

Album Review: Rockapella’s “2″

Rockapella’s Last Hurrah, originally uploaded by eyduck.

This 2000 album continues the theme of a slick, poppy production like its predecessor, Don’t Tell Me You Do.

Album Review: Rockapella’s Don’t Tell Me You Do

Kevin Wright and Scott Leonard of Rockapella being silly., originally uploaded by greyfloppysocks.

This 1999 album is a part of the era where we say goodbye to the era of Sean Altman and Carmen Sandiego and hello to the era of Kevin Wright, Folgers, Scott as lead songwriter, and a much more slickly produced sound for the guys.

Album Review: Rockapella, “Lucky Seven: Memories and Dreams”

Sean Altman, originally uploaded by skyvue.

Rockapella’s 1996 album is unique in many ways. One is that this is Sean Altman’s last album with them and is the second with new arrival Jeff Thacher, and another reason? It’s an incredible album, because when Sean left, he left with a bang.

One downside is that this album is out of print, which in my opinion, is wrong on so many levels it ain’t even funny.  Amazon.com came to my rescue and while it was a little pricey to get, it was worth every penny. Richard Jeni’s pizza analogy I used to describe “From N.Y.” from my last album review holds true here.

Laura from Bright and Beautiful talked about how Sean and Scott are like John Lennon and Paul Macartney, and she is right.  Sean is the quirky songwriter (John), and Scott is the romantic songwriter (Paul).

Album Review: Rockapella “Volume Two: From N.Y.”

ShockaPella!, originally uploaded by Kordulak.

Best picture I could find on YouTube to capture the mood of my review of “From N.Y.”  And this review is very biased in my love for this album, and I’m not a trained reviewer or trained in singing, so a little caveat for you, reader.
