Learning as I go along in life

One aspect that Scott Leonard called ‘the seamy underbelly’ of Rockapella history

At least the harmony has this gorgeous tone that one would expect from the Sean Altman era of Rockapella.

Here, we also see the beginning of Scott releasing his hair from the confines of mullets and gel.

That wall practically drips with 90′s aesthetic.

ETA: Purple and pink Sean? Really?

You have no idea how happy this video makes me.

Album Reviews: Nice Kitty by fi-Ling Fader

Before you read this, I just want to let you know I am not exactly happy with this review, but I have put this on the back burner for a long time.  In other words, I edited this the best I could and said, “Forget it, I’m going to put it out there and move on.”

Before 1man1mike and Tokyo Robots, Scott Leonard released a solo album with instruments!  All in all, it’s a cute album if you like pop-rock.  It has quirky lyrics with a poppy sound that was so predominant in the early 90′s.  However, you have to order it off Scott Leonard’s website.  I must say, it is weird hearing him sing along with a full band (Yes I know, he sang with the Boston Pops, but still…).

Album Review: “Bang,” by Rockapella

So, Rockapella has finally released a new album with their new member, Stephen Dorian taking the place of Kevin Wright.  I downloaded the whole thing off iTunes.  I must say, I do love the swanky Maurice Binder style cover.

Saw Rockapella again for the third time

Memorable moments

New guy (Stephen Dorian) is good.

They upgraded their show with little short films.

I think they sang Thunderball before their song Bang.

The woman they pulled up on stage to sing to cracked everyone up with her actions.    However, I do think she got drunk after the show.

The more I listen to John K. Brown, the more I love his voice.

I downloaded their new album (FINALLY!!!) Bang and I will review it later.

Mini-Review: Getting into Janelle Monae

I have heard her name bandied about in various pop culture blogs until I finally saw a youtube video of her performing and…wow.

Talk about smooth and sleek.  I know she’s coming to my home state and I will try to see her in person.  Anyway, as a personal treat after dealing with a very trying day, I treated myself to downloading some of her songs off iTunes.  The following list represents my favorite songs from her.

Album Review: Scott Leonard’s Tokyo Robots

Hey, did you know that Scott Leonard has a second album out?  I do now, and I am reviewing it.  The album goes by the name, Tokyo Robots and follows in the same style of his previous album, 1man1mike.  He makes the sounds himself and even the album covers have the same font style.  However, instead of a black album cover, this CD now has a white album cover with lots of silkscreen style photography of Tokyo itself.  Remember, Scott lived in Japan for a time.  And guess what?  I received another thank you note from Scott himself.

Regarding this review, unlike the others I had already listened many times before I actually started this blog.  However, I am going to review this CD as I listen to it for the very first time.

New (and somewhat old) things!

I am half done with my SCAD graduate program.

I have a new blog!  Art History Ramblings

Hey, did you know that Kevin Wright left Rockapella and now they have a new member?  Haven’t heard anything new from him, so I do not have an opinion.  I generally trust their choices.

Went to see Rockapella’s Holiday Show

It was a great show, better than I expected (not a big fan of holiday shows myself) Dad and I drove from Charlotte to Durham to go see them.  Dad enjoyed it too.  After the show, we drove back home.

Memorable moments

Kevin Wright’s digs on Meredith Baxter Burney and Tiger Woods

Dad laughing at George Baldi III’s vocal teacher story

The Kwanzaa song

The Dreidel Song

Two of the women in front of me were completely hot for George Baldi, and I think two of the guys next to me were hot for him too.

Will add more.

Incredible Women: 90′s Part Deux

(RIP) Aaliyah Are You That Somebody?  Remember when this song was all over the place?

One in a Million “Love it babe, love it babe, love it babe…”

Sarah McLachlan Building a Mystery “You’re so beautiful, a beautiful fucked up man…”

Sweet Surrender (The opening tune and chorus is perfect.)

Tori Amos God (The background vocal during “Why you always when the wind blows?” always gets me.)
