Learning as I go along in life

Tributes: I Heart…Shahrukh Khan

I love Shahrukh Khan, he’s a beautiful man who doesn’t take himself seriously.  Some of my favorite musical bits from the various movies of SRK.  I will not be posting videos from Devdas and Don, because I have already dedicated whole posts to them already.

From Asoka.  Asoka holds a special place in my heart because this movie was my official viewing of a Bollywood picture.  And my first viewing of Shahrukh himself.  He is so beautiful here in every scene he’s in, I have to go, “Stop it, I’m trying to follow the plot!”  Oh, and Kareena Kapoor is really cool herself.

O Re Kaanchi (I love this song, but what is up with Ashoka giving Kaurwaki the cold shoulder?)

Tributes: I Heart….Madhuri Dixit

The Divine Madhuri as Chandramukhi in Devdas.  I have a girlcrush on this beautiful lady.

Dola re Dola with Aishwarya Rai.  Madhuri and Rai had such wonderful chemistry together.  So much that I wanted Paro and Chandramukhi to run away and become a couple themselves.

Compare/Contrast: Main Hoon Don

While not remakes per se, still….

Amitabh Bachchan version

Bally Sagoo: Noorie

I first heard this song when I bought Putamayo’s Asian Groove CD and I’ve been spellbound by it’s exquisite combination of Indian singing meshed with an R&B style chorus.

I know female Indian singers can be a bit of an acquired taste for people, but she is just lovely.

Compare/Contrast: Don-Yeh Mera Dil

Like the previous post

Amitabh Bachchan with Helen

Shahrukh Khan with Kareena Kapoor (oh, and shame on you all who think Kareena is chubby/fat)

Compare/Contrast: Khaike Paan Banarasawala

The two heavies of Bollywood perform a song that is so sublime and awesome that if you don’t want to get up and dance to it, there is something wrong with you.

With Amitabh Bachchan and the awesome and lovely Zeenat Aman. I love how express Bachchan is with his long limbs and how he looks a bit like Al Pacino.

I watched the original, and I wonder, that Paan stuff must be to Vijay what Spinach was for Popeye.

2006 version with Shahrukh Khan dancing with the regally lovely Priyanka Chopra

Mini-Tributes: I Heart…ShahRukh Khan

Oh. Wow.
I discovered this smokin’ Desi man when I first saw the Asoka DVD at Blockbuster and was awestruck by the beautiful, sensuous on the cover. I took it home (along with the DVD to Titus), popped it in….and the DVD malfunctioned at the exposition sequence. A couple years later during undergraduate study in college, I found Asoka again thanks to my world religion class and the DVD library at the college library. It was right there I discovered the world of Bollywood, and have never left it. The musical numbers, the color, the gorgeousness of it all!!

And oh, the eyeliner on King Khan

Every frame of Asoka, Shahrukh was so gorgeous I went “Stop it! I’m trying to follow the million plotlines you have going on!” My mother felt the same way.
And thanks to the power of Amazon and Netflix, I got more.

Bollywood movies, I’ve watched so far…
Don (1978 and 2006 versions, it was awesome to see the 2006 version in a theater in my town, and I was the only White girl there. I saw it again a week later with my mom, still the only two White females there
Sharukh was a pit viper in that movie, not taking away from Amitabh’s performance because he was pretty bad ass too, but Shahrukh…damn)
Devdas (Loved, loved, LOVED the musical numbers and there I was introduced to the magic that is Madhuri Dixit)
Duplicate (That was probably the silliest movie he’s ever been in)
Baadshah (Again, silly awesome movie, and Twinkle Khanna, unfortunate name, but she’s got a smokin’ hot body and great presence)

Mini Tribute: I Heart…Madhuri Dixit

Madhuri Dixit, originally uploaded by Bollywoodzone.

Forget Aishwarya Rai, THIS is the most beautiful woman in the world! From the first moment I saw her in Devdas, I was in total total girlcrush mode.

I always get my daily dose of WTF?!! from Bollywood
