Learning as I go along in life

Compare/Contrast: A Day in the Life

Beatles version (John’s voice is so awesome in this original, there’s something so tired and vulnerable about his performance)

Awesome instrumental version by Jeff Beck (and hey, it’s Jennifer Batten backing him up!)

Compare/Contrast: Long and Winding Road

Original by Beatles (The original haunting version that will always give me chills)

George Michael version (good version too)

Compare/Contrast: Here Comes The Sun

Beatles Version (To be perfectly honest, I was never really a big fan of the song and George Harrison is my favorite Beatle, nearly every song he did, I was in love with)

Compare/Contrast: Got to get you into my life

Beatles Version (The horns, Paul’s incredible voice, pure magic)

Ooooh, the beat is sweet tonight….

Rockapella performs “Tonight”

George Baldi’s looking very good in this clip and his voice reminds me of smooth chocolate.

Album Review: Rockapella, “Lucky Seven: Memories and Dreams”

Sean Altman, originally uploaded by skyvue.

Rockapella’s 1996 album is unique in many ways. One is that this is Sean Altman’s last album with them and is the second with new arrival Jeff Thacher, and another reason? It’s an incredible album, because when Sean left, he left with a bang.

One downside is that this album is out of print, which in my opinion, is wrong on so many levels it ain’t even funny.  Amazon.com came to my rescue and while it was a little pricey to get, it was worth every penny. Richard Jeni’s pizza analogy I used to describe “From N.Y.” from my last album review holds true here.

Laura from Bright and Beautiful talked about how Sean and Scott are like John Lennon and Paul Macartney, and she is right.  Sean is the quirky songwriter (John), and Scott is the romantic songwriter (Paul).

Mini-Tribute: I heart…Doug Jones

Hellboy 2 Golden Army Movie Photos (27), originally uploaded by divxplanet.

Doug Jones as Abe Sapien, winner of the “I should not be attracted to this man, but I am!” I liked his character in the first Hellboy movie, but I was in love when the second came out. I think it was because of Doug’s gentle voice and the fact that Abe found love. And Abe is a nerd who loves reading too.
